Taë Schmeisser

Last night, the Tribe Katalyst team popped along to the opening of Edition X, a very exciting new concept store from Melanie Katsalidis, the design and business wonderwoman behind Pieces of Eight. The premise of Edition X is to offer exclusive commissioned, limited edition works with a focus on presenting the ‘affordable collectable’, ranging from jewellery, textiles and books to sculpture and works on paper.

One of the artists featured at the launch was our very own Taë Schmeisser. Her Trash & Treasure collection for Edition X continues her exploration of the urban landscape featuring her signature wheelie bin necklaces with a new twist in the form of flashes of neon colour. It’s also a little hint at what’s to come from her new label bëuy, which we are super excited to be launching very soon.

We had a fab time at the opening, munching on Edition X’s custom cupcakes and admiring the gorgeous work on display. If you haven’t already, we highly recommending checking out the Edition X showroom or online shop. It could be the perfect place to do some Christmas shopping, that is if you can avoid wanting it all for yourself!

Way back in  2008 I found myself at the NMIT silversmithing advanced diploma graduate show, checking out the work of  jewellery design’s freshest talent. It was here that I fell in love with the work of  Taë Schmeisser. For me, Taë’s work stood out in the crowd, a combination of precise technical skill and playful concepts.  I mean sterling silver wheelie bins!! Who would have thought? I remember staring at her ‘Airport Scene Scape’ and thinking, “I want to work with this girl!!”

And sure enough 3 years later here I am, working with Taë on her new venture – a jewellery label that is going to knock your socks off! Keep tuned peeps. Taë is going to be big. You heard it here first!
